Baby Boomer's Impact on Kansas' Over 60 Population

As the Baby Boomers* transition into senior life, their impact will be felt in many ways. It is not simply a matter of population growth.

In 1990, Boomers accounted for 30 percent of Kansas' total population, numbering an estimated 448,030. This number has stayed relatively steady over the past ten years. The true impact of the Boomers won't be realized until the year 2006. By the year 2007 the number of Kansans aged 60 or over is projected to number nearly 503,985. In 2015, nearly 622,095 Kansans will be aged 60 or over with 50 percent of them being Boomers.

The rapid growth in the Kansas Senior population will continue and reach its peak in 2025. An estimated 777,217 Kansans will be age 60 or over at that time.

*Baby Boomer (Boomer) is applied to persons born from 1946 to 1964.
