In the past ten years the Kansas population aged 85 and older made a steady gain from approximately 42,174 persons in 1990 to an estimated 51,685 in the year 2000.
The growth in the number of Kansans aged 85 or older is projected to remain on a steady increase through the year 2025. At that time, there will be an estimated 72,590 Kansans in this age range. However, the Baby Boomers* impact won't be seen in this age range until the year 2031. Baby Boomers will make a dramatic increase in this population.
