Oral Health Services for the HCBS/FE Waiver
* Service is suspended indefinitely unless crisis exception is met.
What is the new service?
Starting October 1, 2007, a new service has been approved through the Home and Community Based Services/Frail Elderly (HCBS/FE) waiver. The oral health services allow HCBS/FE recipients to receive needed dental care in Kansas. Kansas Medicaid does not currently provide dental care to seniors except a dental examination, x-ray and/or extraction in an emergency situation.
What will the service provide?
Oral health services offer preventive and restorative treatment and allow for the purchase, adjustment and repair of dentures for HCBS/FE recipients.
How is this service funded?
The service is funded through the HCBS/FE Waiver using Medicaid Federal Funds and state match.
Are there fees involved for the HCBS/FE customer?
There are no fees involved. The HCBS/FE program covers the cost of the required oral health services.
How can a senior participant in the oral health services?
The service will provide dental care for seniors who meet HCBS/FE qualifications:
- Age 65 years or older
- Choose HCBS/FE
- Meet Medicaid financial eligibility as determined by the Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS)
- Meet functional eligibility as determined by a targeted case manger for the HCBS FE program
Once eligible for HCBS/FE the senior is able to receive the covered dental services. To verify the customer is HCBS/FE eligible, the dental office staff will need to access the AVRS or KMAP website.
