- Several forums available to encourage resident choice in activities and opportunities to express concerns or problems.
Staff Empowerment:
- Salary incentive offered for additional training.
- Staff have input into final hiring decisions.
- Staff members from all shifts encouraged to provide input into residents’ care plans.
Home Environment:
- Residents rooms being renovated with fresh paint, window treatments, carpeting, oak furniture, raised ceilings, and improved lighting.
- Residents have named their living communities, each with an open living area.
- Renovation included the addition of kitchenettes, relaxation room, therapy room, larger beauty shop, new dining room, and more areas for residents and guests to visit, play cards or games, or watch TV.
- Nurses’ station has been replaced by a nice desk and armoire.
Community Involvement:
- “Companion Sister Program” connects each nursing home resident to a member of the monastic community at large, thereby providing each resident with assistance in staying connected with the monastic activities, companionship, and assistance with special needs.
