Seven Adult Care Homes Receive PEAK Awards

WICHITA - Kathy Greenlee, Acting Secretary of the Kansas Department on Aging, today announced the seven adult care homes that this year will receive awards for person-centered care. The Promoting Excellent Alternatives in Kansas nursing homes awards recognize homes that adopt more home-like settings along with resident control, staff empowerment and community involvement.

Greenlee made the announcement of the PEAK award recipients during remarks at Kansas Adult Care Executives’ 34th annual convention in Wichita.

“The culture of care can’t be changed without leadership from administrators and staff,” Greenlee said. “We applaud the staff at these facilities for creating a different kind of life for nursing home residents.”

This year’s award winners are:
• Bethany Home Association, Lindsborg, Marlin Johnson, administrator.
• Dooley Center, Atchison, Barbara Stec, administrator.
• Medicalodge of Eureka, Eureka, Peggy Hackett, administrator.
• Minneola District Hospital Long-Term Care Unit, Minneola, Carol Tedford, administrator.
• Newton Presbyterian Manor, Newton, Shawn Sullivan, administrator.
• Hillsboro Community Medical Center, Hillsboro, Michael Ryan, CEO and administrator.
• Pleasant View Home Inc., Inman, Jalane White, administrator.

Both Hillsboro and Pleasant View have received prior PEAK Awards.

KDOA began recognizing adult care homes through the PEAK Awards in 2002. Facilities must submit an application for consideration for the honor. On-site presentation of the awards will be made later this year.
