The Kansas Department on Aging today announced that the nursing facility at Aldersgate Village, Topeka, passed its fourth revisit survey bringing the facility back into compliance with federal regulations. This means the facility will continue to receive federal funding for services provided to its Medicare and Medicaid residents.
KDOA Acting Secretary Kathy Greenlee said the agency’s surveyors found Aldersgate to be in substantial compliance after completing the fifth survey in six months. The 209-bed nursing facility faced termination of its Medicare and Medicaid provider agreement with the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The deadline for the facility to comply with the federal regulations was July 19.
“KDOA recognizes this has been a stressful and anxious time for residents and their families,” Greenlee said. “Our priority is the safety and care of the residents, which is measured by the enforcement of federal regulations. We are pleased the facility is in compliance with the law and we will continue to work with Aldersgate to ensure the highest standards of care continue.”
KDOA surveyors identified 18 serious deficiencies at the facility’s annual survey in January. The facility continued to be out of substantial compliance with federal regulations during three follow-up surveys between March and July, prompting CMS to begin the process to terminate its provider agreement. A fourth re-visit is usually not needed and must be approved by CMS.
