The 2005 Silver-Haired Legislature recognized 11 individuals for their support of seniors Oct. 5 at its annual banquet in Topeka. The banquet was part of the Silver-Haired Legislature’s 23rd annual session.
The Silver-Haired Legislature gave special recognition to Kansas Department on Aging Secretary Pamela Johnson-Betts for her efforts in advocating for seniors. SHL President Irv Hoffman, Lenexa, said the award is given periodically to recognize outstanding efforts for the betterment of seniors.
Sen. Jim Barnett, Emporia, was presented the Legislator of the Year Award for his support of 2004 legislation giving Kansans tax credit for purchasing long-term care insurance.
The Silver-Haired Legislature also recognized nine of its members during the awards ceremony.
